This High Quality and Affordable Canon Lens is a "Must Have"

bylambchops Jan 8, 2007
70 Helpfuls 71 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Clear, great price, great contrast, well made, did I say clear?
Cons Um. Uh. No.
Recommended it? Yes

I am a somewhat versed, but definitely not professional, hobbyist photographer. As such it is my lot in life to improve my equipment--my lenses, my camera, my flash, etc. This is a never-ending job. One that exists for all photographers with SLR equipment regardless of level of talent or... Read full review »

Canon's 100mm Macro lens is a keeper.

bytheuerkorn Jul 19, 2009
32 Helpfuls 33 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Minimum distance (310mm), fast optics, great sharpness, good for portrait and Macro
Cons No environmental seals, no IS, relatively long
Recommended it? Yes

Optical quality has become more and more of an issue as digital sensors are more dense with any new release and already surpassing standard film grain. Hence the sharpness (a.k.a. contrast) of a lens is more important than ever. Prime lenses are at an advantage as moving parts are kept to a minimum... Read full review »

Pros Excellent image quality?speedy focusing!
Cons A bit more expensive but no truly negative considerations, yet.
Recommended it? Yes

It was Thursday that I bought a Sigma 105mm macro-focusing lens. Friday, the auto-focusing mechanism failed and I upgraded (paid a bunch more money) to Canon's 100mm, f:2.8, macro lens.

I immediately headed out of the camera store with my second new lens in less than 24 hours and started... Read full review »

CANON EF 100MM F/2.8 USM MACRO LENS - Lets get small!

bydesslok Feb 11, 2011

Pros The lens delivers some amazing looking photos
Cons I do miss the image stabilization functionality.
Recommended it? Yes

It might come as a shock to some around here but my passion - my other passion other than crappy exploitation flicks from the seventies, I mean - is photography. I've been shooting photos as long as I can remember, back in the seventies with a crappy Kodak Instamatic X-15, through the eighties with... Read full review »

I bought this Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro lens on a whim. I was looking for a different lens and happened to find this on Craigslist for a really good price. I had never used a true macro lens before and it really opens up a lot of extra fun and really expanded my range of subjects. I shoot with a... Read full review »

An honorary "L" series lens!

byMECobb Oct 24, 2006
13 Helpfuls 14 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Incredible image quality. Well built piece of glass
Cons Why didnt I buy one sooner?
Recommended it? Yes

There is a short list of lenses that every amateur photographer should have in their bag-- basically, a long zoom and a short zoom. When I recently purchased my Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L, I had satisfied my desire for a high quality long zoom, and I thought that I had found what would be my favorite... Read full review »

So sharp you'll cut yourself!

byhopetest May 16, 2005

Pros Sharp, well-built, sharp, quick AF.... and did I mention SHARP?
Cons No lens hood included. That's it!
Recommended it? Yes

Well, after lots of umming and aahing around (or as my wife called it 'faffing around'!) I could not put off the decision any longer. I have always loved macro but have felt my limits were being exposed by using just extension tubes or close up filters. I needed the right tool for the job and a... Read full review »

Puts the World in Perspective

byMaxWebster Nov 29, 2008

Pros Sharp sharp sharp; manual adjustment for autofocus; great contrast, color.
Cons Have to back up a long way for portraits and regular shots.
Recommended it? Yes

You've heard "sharpness" tossed around, and you may think you know what that means. But unless you've been shooting with L-series lenses, you'll see so much more detail than before, you'll have a whole new appreciation for a "sharp" picture.

Ever notice in Photoshop that when you blow up a... Read full review »

Photography - buy a camera and start shooting, right? Not if you are serious about it! I have owned cameras since I was in grammar school and the passage of time has taken me from a Kodak to a digital SLR. I have a family to consider so adding to my camera gear has been a long, slow process. I have... Read full review »

I love this lens!!! Its great for art photography or for doing upclose detail for product photography, I have used this for these purposes and so much more. You can get amazing clear detail even in lower light. It is a weighty lens, but it doesn't seem to effect its normal use. It can be... Read full review »
