Queen--Spreadin' the news!!!

bysparkospunky Sep 7, 2000

Pros Change in musical style, great musicians, maintained the Queen touch
Cons None to speak of
Recommended it? Yes

News Of The World, released in 1977, aptly illustrates Queen's venture into newer, different types of music, even though they managed to retain much of their earlier style in doing so. The album demonstrates the immense musical talents of this band, with an emphasis on the vocal and instrumental... Read full review »

News Bulletin: Queen takes over the world.

Pros Great experimentation. Roger sings a little!
Cons Side B is a little on the weak side; fizzles out.
Recommended it? Yes

It really did not matter what Queen did to follow up on A Night at the Opera-- the seceding record could have cured cancer with one listen and people still would have under-appreciated it. Is that a testament to hour strong their previous album was or how bad their latter is? The former,... Read full review »

The Opera is Over; Now Queen Enters the Stadium

bychaostamer May 7, 2009
21 Helpfuls 22 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Well-constructed, genre-bending hard rock; Excellent vocals and guitar parts.
Cons A few songs might warrant multiple listens to fully appreciate.
Recommended it? Yes

It's a wonderful paradox that, after building their career on experimental, opera-tinted hard rock with complex vocal layers, the next logical step in Queen's musical experimentation was to move to more stripped-down music.  But it makes sense too; now two years in the wake of the extravagant A... Queen - News Of The World - Champions of the World

byscapp70 Jun 7, 2003
19 Helpfuls 20 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Heavy rock feel, great songs, awesome cover
Cons zero, only 11 songs
Recommended it? Yes

News Of The World is one of the best albums ever made in rock music. It is a very close race with their 1975 LP A Night At The Opera, where if it wasn't for the track Prophets Song on A Night At The Opera, then News of the World would be easily considered Queen's... Read full review »

Queen's News for the World

Pros Some truly fantastic songs
Cons Some truly bad songs
Recommended it? Yes

News of the World released in 1977 after the mega success of their previous two albums "A Night at the Opera", and "A Day at the Races" (named after Marx Brothers movies). This album however is a major departure from their earlier pomp, glam, sound.

While there still is hints of Queen's... Read full review »

Not the best, but still Queen

byblofish Feb 5, 2004
15 Helpfuls 16 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Two (alright, four) good songs. Decent album art (grasping at straws here)
Cons Remaining seven songs lack focus and direction. Appalling bonus track
Recommended it? No

Of all the Queen albums I possess (all bar the live ones) this is possibly my least favourite. Often people ask me for my favourite Queen piece, and I'm immediately torn between Night at the Opera and Day at the Races, before recalling some of the better moments of Innuendo, Queen II and Sheer... Don't let the singles fool you...

byMatt_Stein Dec 14, 2000

Pros A nice change of pace production and songwriting-wise.
Cons More obvious, attention-losing filler than on other releases, but nothing's...
Recommended it? Yes

News of the World, Queen's 1977 release, contains two of the most well-known and long-lasting singles of all time, We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions. What else is there to this work? Quite a lot, but it's also a very different work than what Queen had been feeding the public for their previous... Read full review »

The Album That Launched A Thousand Sports Teams

bythewaxtadpole Oct 24, 2003
9 Helpfuls 10 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Equal quality music and lyrics, full spectrum of moods, and as always, Fred.
Cons Simply not enough Birdman.
Recommended it? Yes

Energetic, diverse, and moody while still managing to be true to Queen form. From the philosophical "All Dead, All Dead" to the clever and wickedly raunchy "Get Down, Make Love", the album is virtually flawless. The album is cohesive and flows in a logical manner. Drummer Roger Taylor proves... Read full review »
