Sennheiser HD280Pro: A Dollar-for-Dollar Headphone Champ?

bysymbiosis Jun 8, 2006
83 Helpfuls 84 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Excellent sound quality, construction, and comfort. Price. Noise blocking.
Cons Slightly quirky appearance, ear cups can get a bit warm with extended use.
Recommended it? Yes

Over the past few years, I have tried out (and reviewed) many sets of headphones from many different manufacturers. I have also tried a wire variety of styles and price ranges, from the $20 terrible sounding glorified earplug that is the Koss Spark Plug, all the way up to the large, over-the-ear,... Pros Exceptional sound, comfortable, built to last
Cons A bit pricey
Recommended it? Yes

Background
I have used these headphones for almost 2 years now. They are currently plugged into my home PC, where they are used primarily for listening to MP3's and playing games. I have also used them to watch movies by connecting them to my home theater receiver. I have not taken them with... Read full review »

Sennheiser HD 280 Pro Headphones: Excellent Headphones at a Reasonable Price

byHorswispr Nov 5, 2008
55 Helpfuls 56 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros excellent sound; really comfortable; look nice; relatively inexpensive
Cons will the plastic hold up long-term? is the bass shelved down?
Recommended it? Yes

A friend recently invited me into the studio to record some guitar tracks for an Irish music project he was working on. I grabbed my Larrivee LS-05 acoustic guitar and played three tunes for the project, and then did some over-dubs, playing over guitar and mandolin tracks we'd already put down. The... Great closed headphones for the price!

byLetItRut Jun 10, 2002
30 Helpfuls 31 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Accurate sound, versatile swiveling/folding feature
Cons Not as "detailed" or "airy" as higher-priced headphones
Recommended it? Yes

I've tried various closed-back full-size headphones that cost up to $200 from mass-market brands such as Sony, and I was almost universally disappointed in them. So I went to a Virgin Megastore and plopped down $99.95 plus tax for a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones. Sure, Virgin also... Read full review »

Pros Great sound, replaceable parts, comfortable to wear, great sound isolation
Cons A little bulky for travel
Recommended it? Yes

Let me just start by saying that the Sennheiser HD-280 PRO headphones are absolutely amazing. They will allow you to hear detail and depth in your music that you never knew existed. With that said they may not be exactly what you want. Now on to the review...

Sennheiser's are awesome. But not portable.

bykhlorineking Aug 8, 2003
16 Helpfuls 17 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Extremely great sound
Cons Hard to take on trips. Not portable
Recommended it? Yes

I've gone through many different headphones, each time taking a step above, however, those were mostly in the $10-$40 range. I had never really had the ambition to take the big step up to a more expensive pair. I finally decided to go with it, and see what its like. It was a great decision,... Read full review »

Great cans for a great price!

byjsc1973 Jun 21, 2003
16 Helpfuls 17 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Great sound, great price, good for a wide variety of applications.
Cons A little bulky, require a burn-in for best sound.
Recommended it? Yes

Like I lot of people who own the HD280 Pro, I was introduced to these headphones while shopping for something that I could use along with my computer, for listening to music and blasting away on games late at night. That's not what Sennheiser really intended for them, but I'm sure they're not... Read full review »

A thing of beauty...

Pros Sealed, comfort, single-cord, great sound.
Cons Sealed headphones sound worse than open.
Recommended it? Yes

These are my first dive into the world of hi-fi audio, and let me tell you, what a dive it was. The difference between these (or any quality headphones, I would imagine) and the stock ones bundled with PDCP's is amazing. I strongly recommend to anyone that they blow $100 on some Grado's, or... Not up to par for Sennheiser headphones

byexcaliburn Aug 31, 2007
14 Helpfuls 15 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Durable, relatively inexpensive, very effective at sealing against external sounds.
Cons Pretty uncomfortable, tonal balance and imaging are only average.
Recommended it? No

As other reviewers have written, the HD-280s are probably some of the "sound sealingest" headphones you can find. I've worn ear protectors while shooting that let through more noise than these do. But the downside of this is that these cans really clamp down on your head. They can be hot and... Read full review »
