Pros excellent value and quality
Cons none noted
Recommended it? Yes

Having recently purchased a new Canon EOS Elan 7e, with the standard 38-90 Canon USM lens, I wanted more. I had sold off my older Canon gear, which included 4 lenses and a 2X Tamron teleConverter, as well as an excellent Tamron short zoom lens.
I did quite a lot of research on zoom lenses in... Read full review »

A Great Lens For The Advanced

byrneuma1 May 15, 2000
9 Helpfuls 10 Helpfuls Was this review helpful?
Pros Great Lens, Nice High Speed Photo Quality, Great Length of View
Cons Hard to Use For The Casual User, Hard To Get The RIght Light
Recommended it? Yes

This is an incredible lens. It has a focus length up to 300 meters. It is incredible how far this thing goes. The distance of this lens so long and precise that sometimes I feel like I could use it for a sniping scope. This is not for the avereage user. This fact should be known, the avereage point... Introduction (a story):
I purchased this lens shortly after my start in SLR digital photography. The 18-55mm kit lens which came packaged with my Canon Digital Rebel (300D) simply wasn't cut for anything but close range snapshotting. I went onto the Internet and dug around for info on longer... Read full review »

Cons A loud autofocus. Slower to focus than Canon Ultrasonic lenses.

Coming from an F1 to the eos line I have found this lens is modest in weight. The metal shoe is a nice touch, that leads to a smooth coupling on the elan. my camera came with a piece of s___ lens, this was my replacement and I have loved the attention left for the fans manual focus. The camera... Read full review »

About 3 years ago I was given a Canon Rebel 2000 as a Christmas present. At the time, I suggested a "kit" I knew nothing about the camera or lens that came with it (Tamron 28-80mm). As time went on, and I learned more about the camera and photography, I knew I needed to add another lens to my... Read full review »

Pros Great price, great quality pictures, light weight
Cons None!

I purchased this lens along with a Tamron 28-105mm lens on advice from several other Tamron lens owners. I had originally priced Nikkor lenses, but the comparable Nikkor was $269.99, and way over budget for me. Also, come to find out, Tamron manufactures parts for the 70-300mm Nikkor!

Good telephoto zoom with the Tamron mount advantage

byCassady Jun 3, 2000

Pros Well made, adaptable to many SLR camera mounts, good macro function
Cons None that I've found
Recommended it? Yes

There have been a lot of mid-level zoom-telephoto lenses out
there, and optically I think this is one of the better ones. It's
well made, with a solid feel, and I must especially salute the
macro function; I've obtained some wonderfully sharp closeups
with this user. A fixed-focal... Read full review »

Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 Di LD Macro Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras

The Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro Autofocus Lens is a compact, light-weight, ultra-tele zoom which covers the 70mm to 300mm telephoto range and produces photographs of exceptional image quality. It is ideal for taking pictures at a distance particularly when the subject is difficult to approach such as in nature and wildlife photography as well as at sporting and theatrical events. The Tamron 70-300mm also excels at portraiture and allows you to isolate the subject from the background for eye-catching, dramatic portraits. This versatile zoom has superb macro capability with a magnification of 1:2 enabling 1/2 life-size close-up shots of flowers, insects, and other objects that normally would require the use of a specially designed macro lens. This new lens is made with the Tamron Di (Digitally Integrated) design which uses an optical system with improved multi-coatings designed to function with Digital SLR Cameras as well as Film SLR Cameras. Tamron also incorporates LD (Low Dispersion) glass in this lens to correct chromatic aberration, resulting in clear, sharp, and beautifully vivid images.
